Battle of Misar 210 years anniversary marked

Laying wreaths at the monument to Karadjordje and Misar heroes and paying tribute to the veterans in the village of Misar, near Sabac, Battle of Misar 210 years anniversary has been marked.

Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, who led the civil ceremony, said that no generation in the history of the Serbian nation, from Misar to Kosare, did not give the wrong answer to the question of whether to give up freedom.

"From Misar to Kosare, Serbian people have never managed to give up their freedom and their right to decide for themselves", Vulin said.

He added that Serbia has won this right to decide for itself and will never allow anyone to take that right away from it.

"God rests the souls of the heroes from Misar, but also to all those who were behind the rifle, and the plough in these two centuries, and to those who fed us and defended us. We also thank to these toddlers that only started to walk as they have whom to rely on, and we wish to let them know that we safeguard and build for them a state that respects wit and courage, keeps the memory of ancestors and also prepares the place for a better and fairer generation than we were", Vulin pointed out.

In addition to the Minister, the wreaths were laid also by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, diplomatic corps, as well as associations and citizens committed to preserving tradition of Serbian liberation wars.

The celebration of the anniversary was attended by representatives of the municipality of Sabac, Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic and other public figures.

Battle of Misar, which took place on 13th August 1806, was one of the most important victories of the rebels over the units of regular armed forces of the Ottoman Empire.

Led by military leader Karadjordje and prominent leaders of the uprising from Sabac and Valjevo region, the Serbs took a brilliant victory which has strengthened the position of the rebels and significantly endangered status under the Turks within the Belgrade province.
