Chief of the General laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala



Commemorating 23 April, the Serbian Armed Forces Day, Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, accompanied by Lieutenant-General Djokica Petrovic, Commander of the Training Command, and Major General Ranko Zivak, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence, has laid a wreath today at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala.

On that occasion, General Dikovic wrote the following in the memorial book: "Proud of our ancestors who, 201 years ago set out tofinally liberate Serbia from centuries of slavery, the members of the Serbian Armed Forces mark this day with dignity. The care for the safety of the Serbian citizens and our fatherland was borne out of respect for you, our glorious ancestors. Eternally grateful members of the Serbian Armed Forces".

The Serbian Armed Forces celebrates 23April to mark the day when, on Palm Sunday in 1815, the decision was made to raise the Second Serbian Uprising to liberate Serbia from Ottoman rule, which later enabled the creationof the modern Serbian state and the armed forces.
