Enhancement of the military cooperation with Israel

An expert delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the State of Israel, led by General Counsel Ahaz Ben-Ari, paid a working visit to the Department for International Military Cooperation.

Head of the Department, Navy Captain Milan Konjikovac, briefed his interlocutor on the political and security situation in the region, with an emphasis on current migratory crisis. He thanked for the principled policy of Israel, which has not recognized the unilaterally declared independence of the so called "Republic of Kosovo" and for the assistance offered during the last year's floods in Serbia. Navy Captain Konjikovac conveyed satisfaction with the opening of the first chapters in the process of accession of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union and introduced General Counsel Ben-Ari to the activities of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in that domain.

The interlocutors agreed that there is a real potential for enhancing cooperation in the field of defence between the two countries. This will be contributed to by holding the forthcoming bilateral defence consultations in Tel Aviv. In the coming period it is necessary to specifically promote military-to-military cooperation through the implementation of joint exercises, as well as in the areas of military education and military medicine.

The guests expressed their satisfaction that during the meeting the text of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries on defence cooperation was harmonized and stressed the importance of defining a legal framework for further military cooperation. They reiterated the importance of the continuity of high-level meetings for the establishing of strategic directions and intensifying the cooperation.
