Marking of the Veterans Day



With the highest state and military honours, President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, accompanied by Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Dikovic laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Avala, on the occasion of the Veterans Day - 4 December.

"When you made the decision - Serbia or life, you chose Serbia and life for those who are yet to be born. Serbia will exist as long as it births such sons. It still births them today. Thank you on behalf of today's Serbia ", the President of the Republic wrote in the memorial book.

With a series of events, for the first time, Veterans Day was marked today across the country.

At the same time, delegations of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths at the Memorial Ossuary of the killed in the Serbian-Ottoman and Serbo-Bulgarian War, Memorial Ossuary of Defenders of Belgrade in World War I at the New Cemetery, at the Cemetery of Liberators of Belgrade in World War II and the Monument to 

Victims of War and Homeland Defenders from 1990 to 1999 at the Sava Square in Belgrade.

Veterans Day - 4 December marks the first time this year. On that day in 1912, the truce in the First Balkan War was signed, and about 400,000 soldiers of the Royal Serbian Army became "old warriors" and today’s veterans.
