Day of Army and Day of Infantry marked



Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic, Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic and Defence Minister of Belarus Lieutenant-General Andrei Ravkov attended this evening a ceremony held on the occasion marking the Day of the Army and the Infantry in the Nis Military Club.

Дан КоВCongratulating the holiday to members of the Army and Infantry Service, Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic recognized their results achieved in the previous period and stressed that in accordance with military neutrality, Serbia develops friendly relations, both in the East and the West. "Serbian soldier in the Battle of Kolubara showed the world how and why we must fight - Minister Gasic said. - His courage, desire, perseverance and strength in the defence of the fatherland is the legacy that today every member of the Serbian Armed Forces proudly displays and keeps deep inside ".

Gasic pointed out that members of the Army are the backbone of the Serbian Armed Forces, and that in the past year they have successfully implemented all tasks, one of the most important ones is certainly the securing of the administrative line with our southern Serbian province.

"Army units have been diligently and professionally engaged in the third mission, saving lives and property in the event of natural and other disasters, while their deployment in multinational operations under the auspices of the UN and the EU undoubtedly enhances the reputation of both the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia as a whole. Preserving our tradition, but looking out to the future, we have a clear vision of the development of our defence system with emphasis on strengthening the operational capabilities of the Army and the defence system as a whole, so the Serbian Armed Forces, as a contemporary armed force, is always ready to carry out missions and tasks in conditions of new security challenges, risks and threats. Our priority in the coming period is to equip the Army units with new and modern weapons and military equipment, to improve training system, continue deployments in peacekeeping operations and improve standards of SAF. We are on the right track, which is confirmed by the fact that SAF has a leading position among state institutions, and together with the Serbian Orthodox Church, it enjoys the greatest trust of the citizens of Serbia. I am confident that members of the Army with their conscientious and responsible work, expertise and military skills will give full contribution to the improvement and strengthening of operational and functional capabilities of the SAF and achieve our common goal - contemporary and modern Serbian Armed Forces," Defence Minister said.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic commented on the Battle of Kolubara and other battles of the Serbian Army and reiterated that the Army is a modern and most massive service in the Serbia Armed Forces with the greatest firepower, whose most important mission is training for the defence of Serbia from armed threats, and the most important task is performing tasks in the Ground Security Zone, where Army members provide peace for all citizens regardless of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

"Chief of General Staff, Defence Minister, President, the people and the state can always count on the members of the Army, who are willing to perform any task - Simovic said - and all together, we will remember the thoughts of Duke Misic and Petar Kocic - Life is a tough battle, he who dares, he can, he who knows no fear, he moves forward. – Those who sincerely and passionately love truth, freedom and the fatherland are free and fearless like God".

Envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Milorad Simic presented the Medals of Merit and devotion to the service to members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The handover of the medals was attended by Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simovic and their closest associates. recognition, and it is not easy to carry it. Every award obliges to work, sacrifice and care for people. Faith in the fatherland, the people and the capability is close to winning and reaching the primordial objective, which is to be useful to oneself, one’s family and the state. We have such officers, NCOs, soldiers and civilians, and we can be proud of every member of our Armed Forces."

The ceremony in the Nis Military Club of Serbia was also attended by envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Milorad Simic, state secretaries and assistant ministers, MPs, district heads, mayors and heads of municipalities, His Grace Bishop Teodosije, representatives of the Catholic, Islamic and Jewish religious communities, directors of institutions, representatives of the associations of military pensioners, organizations of reserve military officers, associations of liberation wars and several hundred citizens of Nis.

Today in Nis, activities to mark the Day of the Army of the Serbian Armed Forces and Day of Infantry were continued. In the Military Club, a ceremonial gathering was held at which greetings and commands on awarded and commended units and individuals in the formation of the Army were read, and representatives of the Army laid a wreath at the Monument to the Liberators in the centre of Nis. Locals and visitors of Niska Banja had the opportunity today to see the display of weapons and equipment of Army units, working with service dogs, martial arts and exhibitions of replicas of regiment flags from the Battle of Kolubara, flags and pennants of the Army units.
