Minister Gasic meets Ambassador of Norway
Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic met today with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Belgrade Arne Sannes Bjørnstad and wished him welcome to, as he said, the most beautiful country in the Balkans.
The meeting confirmed that the two countries have traditionally been friendly. For Serbia, Norway is an important political partner - Minister of Defence said during the talks. The country is the second country with the largest number of foreign direct investments in Serbia. Since 2000, Norway has given Serbia about 250 million euros in grant, which makes it one of the largest donors.Defence Minister particularly thanked for the donation of the Kingdom of Norway of 3.25 million euros for the purpose of capacity building in the reception of migrants from the Middle East and Africa. Gasic informed the Norwegian Ambassador about the activities of state bodies on expanding capacity and improving conditions in the centres for migrants.
Gasic and Bjørnstad agreed that cooperation in the field of defence follows the good interstate relations and that the continuity of high-level visits as well as regular defence consultations contribute to mutual understanding and create an opportunity to establish new initiatives in military-military relations.
Norway is one of the most important countries in terms of expert and financial support in the fields of military medicine, reform of military education and defence planning.
