Састанак министра одбране и амбасадорке СловачкеDefense Minister Bratislav Gasic met today with the new Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Belgrade Dagmar Repcekova on cooperation between the two countries and cooperation in the defence field.

The meeting confirmed that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Slovakia are traditionally good and friendly. Serbia greatly appreciates the principled stand of Slovakia not to recognize the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, Gasic stressed during the talks. Slovakia has also voted against Kosovo's admission to UNESCO. It was pointed out that the specific contribution to the traditionally good relations between the two countries is provided by the Slovak national minority in Serbia and the Serbian community in Slovakia.

Minister Gasic and Ambassador Repcekova concluded that cooperation between Serbia and Slovakia in the multinational UN operation in Cyprus is a good example of joint efforts that will be continued.

Састанак министра одбране и амбасадорке СловачкеGasic thanked for the support Slovakia in the European integration process of our country. The Ministry of Defence has been actively involved in the negotiations of Serbia's accession to the European Union. Although Serbia is not a member of the EU, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces are deployed in four operations under the auspices of the EU, and in addition to the Kingdom of Norway and Switzerland, Serbia is the third country outside the EU that has signed the Administrative Cooperation Agreement with the European Defence Agency. Also, the Resolution of the Government of Serbia on the accession to the EU Battlegroups Concept has been adopted recently. Minister also informed Slovak Ambassador about the activities of cooperation with NATO within the framework of the Partnership for Peace Programme and the cooperation of the Serbian Armed Forces with KFOR. The Embassy of Slovakia is the contact embassy for cooperation between Serbia and NATO.

Minister Gasic and Ambassador Repcekova also discussed the current migrant crisis. Defence Minister said that the army, police, civil sector and all state agencies are working together to improve conditions in centres for migrants.

Gasic thanked for yesterday's meeting of Ambassador Repcekova with Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to Slovakia, from 12 to 14 November.
