Sixty years of the National Defence School

On the occasion of six decades of existence of the National Defence School, the Military Academy held a forum titled "The roots, intersections and prospects", during which the four panels will discuss the current security and military topics.The meeting was attended by State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic, Acting Assistant Minister for Human Resources Milos Jankovic, Deputy Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Jovica Draganic, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, guests from military educational institutions of Romania, the Czech Republic, Greece, Macedonia, representatives of the academic and public life, as well as current and former students of this educational institution.
Addressing the meeting, Rector of the University of Defence Major General Mladen Vuruna pointed out that this is a very important jubilee and that we can proudly say that the decades-long history of higher military education is built in the foundations of the institution managed by him.
- One of the basic demands that determines the quality of university teaching is the education throughout life, or, as it is called in the army, career development, and it is precisely this kind of education or training to perform key functions in departments and units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces that is planned and implemented in the National Defence School - General Vuruna said and pointed to new training programs, introduced in the past years, which include full guidance of officers during their career and their comprehensive preparation for taking over the responsible duties.
Reminding of the history of the National Defence School, Head of the Military Academy Major General Goran Zekovic said that the leadership of this institution preserves and cherishes the tradition of the predecessors, aspiring towards the supreme goal, education of the officer staff of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for the most responsible duties in the defence system.
- The Military Academy was the stronghold in this, and our intention is that in the future we strengthen the departments of military sciences at the National Defence School, through which, since its foundation, 9,159 students have passed, of which 381 from 15 states and three liberation movements - General Zekovic recalled.Head of the National Defence School Col. Miroslav Talijan stated that the school an institutions essential to the defence system, but also to the entire educational system of the Republic of Serbia, primarily due to the specific nature of defence affairs.
Forum continued to work in panels: National security and defence in the modern geopolitical and geostrategic environment, the Serbian Armed Forces in support of peace and security in the region and the world, Necessary knowledge of officers for addressing contemporary security challenges, risks and threats, and Giants of Serbian military thought, the development of war training and military education.
In addition to the gathering at the Military Academy, six decades of existence of the National Defence School will also be marked with tomorrow's scientific meeting in the House of Guards in Topcider, where a ceremonial academy will also be held.
