MoD delegation attending the Comprehensive Regional Ministerial Meeting in Dubrovnik



Свеобухватном регионалном министарском састанкуDelegation of the Ministry of Defence, headed by State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic, will participate in the Comprehensive Regional Ministerial Meeting on 21 and 22 October in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

During the first day, the delegation of the Ministry of Defence attended the meeting of political directors of the Ministries of Defence of the Western Balkans, as well as a meeting of defence ministers of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) where they exchanged experiences and agreed on future regional projects that should respond to the needs of the region.

The meetings initiated a discussion on the future of regional security initiatives and the need for their adaptation to changes in the geopolitical scene. It was concluded that there is room to expand the areas of cooperation, especially in terms of joint deployment in multinational operations and countering threats in the field of cyber security.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Secretary of State Djordjevic met with Minister of Defence of Bosnia Herzegovina Marina Pendes with whom he discussed the possibilities of enhancing bilateral military cooperation, as well as the issues that will be discussed during the forthcoming joint session of the Governments of Serbia and BiH. BiH side is interested in continuing cooperation in the field of education of its representatives in the Republic of Serbia and dealing with the issue of pension service of its members that had been made during the nineties. It was noted that the meetings of chiefs of staff of the two countries are an excellent opportunity to define the priorities of military-military cooperation, and that military economic cooperation, for which there is a mutual interest, will be the topic of discussion in the future.

Свеобухватни регионални министарски састанакDuring the day, Djordjevic also met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of US Defence Evelyn Farkas. It was noted that the current military-military cooperation is at a high level, but that there is room to improve it in the future, especially in the field of joint exercises.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence Farkas pointed out that the upcoming bilateral defence consultations and the time and details of the visit of Minister of Defence of Serbia to the United States will be discussed after the appointment of the new US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence.

Delegation of the Ministry of Defence will tomorrow participate in the meeting of Southeastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process.
