Bas-relief in honour of Koca Popovic unveiled
In the hall of the Central Military Club, today, a bronze bas-relief with the image of Konstantin Koca Popovic (1908-1992), Colonel General of the YNA was unveiled. Memorial by Ljubisa Mancic, in the presence of eminent guests, was unveiled by long-time journalist and president of SUBNOR Serbia Dusan Cukic.
At the ceremony, which was sponsored by SUBNOR Serbia and the Club of Generals and Admirals of Serbia, the guests were addressed by Deputy Director of MC Odbrana Lt. Col. Zoran Krupez, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Club of Generals and Admirals of Serbia retired Lieutenant General Zlatoje Terzic and Dusan Cukic.
Marking the centenary of the beginning of World War I and the seven decades of the victory over fascism, today, one of the most important participants in the national liberation fight was symbolically honoured, who truly advocated and believed in the triumph of the people against the occupiers. Lt. Col. Krupez said that the project of Odbrana Media Centre was a good way "to repay the great names of Serbian history."
According to retired General Zlatoje Terzic, Koca’s military path is easy and hard to speak about - "easy because there is a lot to be said and difficult because it is difficult to reach such heights that he set for life."
Before unveiling the bas-relief, the President of SUBNOR noted that in many nations, and in our own, there is a saying "it is never too late".
- It is never too late for good deeds. One good deed is the unveiling of the bas-relief of Koca Popovic, on this day, the Day of Liberation of our Belgrade – Cukic said.
After discovering the memorial, in the Atrium of the Central Military Club, a discussion "Volunteers in defence of Serbia in World War I" was held, organized by the Association of War Volunteers from 1912 to 1918.
