Meeting of Serbian and Hungarian Chiefs of Defence



Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubisa Dikovic has met today with Chief of General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces General Tibor Benko at the "Airport" barracks in Sombor.

It is the meeting for the purpose of the improvement of mutual cooperation, during which the generals Dikovic and Benko spoke about the current security situation in the region, security challenges and ways to overcome them. They particularly reviewed the joint participation in the multinational operation in Cyprus, as well as joint exercises performed by members of the two armies.

Speaking about the international military cooperation, General Dikovic pointed out that the imperative for the Serbian Armed Forces is the development of cooperation with the countries in the region, and particularly with our neighbours, among which the priority is certainly given to cooperation with Hungary.

- We are already together in the multinational operation in Cyprus, we jointly perform the exercises of our units, which are the most complicated ones, with live firing, and we agree to continue with these activities. We wish to perfect and integrate them. Our goal is that exactly the cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and the Hungarian Defence Forces sets an example of good relations and cooperation in the region – General Dikovic assessed expressing the intent of the Serbian Armed Forces to continue with the joint exercises also in 2016, but also within other forms of cooperation.

Thanking for the invitation to meet in Serbia, general Benko stressed the commitment of the Hungarian Defence Forces to continue the cooperation.

- There are no issues or topics in which we could not agree when it comes to challenges, whether they are related to the challenges of migration or any other topic – General Benko said during the today's meeting in the Sombor "Airport" barracks.
