Minister Gasic visits the migrants in Horgos

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic visited today the refugees at border crossings Horgos 1 and Horgos 2, who had been unsuccessfully trying to cross into Hungary for two days. Several hundred people from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan welcomed the arrival of representatives of the Government of our country chanting "Thank you Serbia".

- Serbia has been pressed by the migration crisis for four months, and with the joint effort of all relevant ministries, we manage to take proper care of all persons crossing our land. Those who wish to remain in Serbia are provided with good conditions, and those who want to continue their way are enabled to go through Serbia without problems - Minister Gasic said and stressed that since the beginning of the refugee crisis in our country, not a single incident had been recorded.

- We will continue adhering to all international norms and conventions and providing utmost humane care of these people in the following period as well - Gasic said. He refused to comment on the attitude of neighbouring countries towards the refugees that are trying to pass through their territory, and underlined that the attitude of the Serbian authorities showed their respect for the international humanitarian norms, and that other countries had chosen their own way of acting.

Minister stressed that our security services were monitoring the situation in the region and that there had been no information about increased

difficulty in the refugees crossing to Croatia, and that these problems could probably be caused by poor organization of the reception of migrants.

According to Minister Gasic, the Serbian Armed Forces has helped to the largest extent in the organization of receiving refugees in southern Serbia and in providing medical care for them.

During the day, buses of local car-carriers transported the majority of the refugees to the Croatian border, from where they will continue their way to Western Europe.
