Minister Gasic visits the migrants in Presevo

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic visited today the migrants in Miratovacko Polje field and at the Reception centre in Presevo, where he was informed on the current state by the representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Displaced Persons, the Red Cross and UNHCR.

On that occasion, Minister said that all the competent authorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia worked as a well-coordinated team to do everything so that the conditions in the reception centre in Presevo were raised to a higher level.

- Next week, there will be a specially separated medical part, which will have a special section with a room for reception and beds - Minister said and added that a discussion had been held today on the establishment of a road that would shorten the distance between Miratovacko Polje and the Presevo centre, in order to accelerate the process of accepting migrants and their recording. Minister Gasic added that, as of tomorrow, SAF members would be deployed in decorating the Reception Centre to get everything ready for the upcoming cold days.

- It has been planned to place about 200 beds in one building, and to locate the women with small children separately in a special facility – Gasic said, and added that all state bodies were working to make the objects of solid material ready as soon as possible.

He stressed that the Norwegian Armed Forces had donated a field hospital of level 2 to Serbia, which would provide our doctors with better conditions for work and adequate medical care.

Minister also visited the members of the Military Hospital in Nis, who provide daily medical assistance to migrants. They reported to him that medicines and medical supplies were sufficient, and that their work was not in any way compromised. Doctors at the Nis Military Hospital have been deployed in the reception centre in Presevo since 21 June, with the 24h care for migrants provided by two doctors and two medical technicians.

The number of migrants that enter our country daily is not slowing down, and, according to available data, last night, around 1200 people were recorded in the third shift only. UNHCR receives the information from their colleagues at the Greek-Macedonian border, and the staff in Presevo knows when to expect large groups of migrants and to take all measures to make their reception as good as possible and their recording quick.
