Gasic paid the debt of a retired Sergeant Major

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic has paid 446,462 dinars to the Fund for social insurance of military insured for the debt of retired Sergeant Major Nenad Vranjanac, who said that the Minister’s gesture had solved a great problem in his life.

In late June, Minister Gasic visited Vranjanac, user of military disability pension, at his home in Leskovac, when he promised to settle the debt with personal means.

Vranjanac, who had earlier turned for help to the Minister of Defence due to problems with status issues, had retired due to illness in 2008, and next year he received from the Fund for social insurance of military insured the order to reimburse a part of the housing costs as a user of military pension.

According to the court verdict, Vranjanac must return to the Fund more than 400,000 dinars, because it has been determined that he was not entitled to the monetary compensation from the Armed Forces while he lived in the house of his father-in-law.

Vranjanac, in response to the Minister’s gesture, said that a big problem in his life had been resolved.

"I am grateful to Minister Gasic, who has also come to visit me, for showing that the country has not forgotten about us, the disabled, even though many of us are treated as second-class citizens," Vranjanac said.

He added that his disease - multiple sclerosis is incurable, but that he would continue fighting for his health, caring for the family, and that he would find a way to help other people.

"It will be an example that we should never lose faith," Vranjanac said.
