The 5th CISM Challenge Cup in mountain running ended
To the sounding of fanfare at the ceremonial awarding of medals, diplomas and cups, the 5th CISM Challenge Cup in mountain running - Kopaonik 2015 ended in Kopaonik today.In women's competition, the first to cross the finish line was Captain Mihaela Prundus, members of the Armed Forces of Romania, who also won last year, but this time she achieved a better result - 24 minutes and 26 seconds.
The most successful member in the men's race was professional soldier Ales Zontar from the Slovenian Armed Forces.
Regarding the overall standings, the winner of this year's competition was the team of the Armed Forces of Romania, followed by the Serbian Armed Forces, and the third place was taken by the Armed Forces of Montenegro, and the representatives of the teams were presented with the medals by Head of delegation of Serbia at CISM Brigadier General Sinisa Radovic.
Congratulating the winners, the competitors and the organizers of this year's competition, General Radovic said that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, with the institutions that had supported this event of a regional character, would continue organizing such activities under the motto of CISM - friendship through sports.
- I hope that, each following year, not just on Kopaonik, but also in other places, we will have the opportunity to increase the number of participants. We expect that after this competition we will see at least some of the competitors at the 6th World Military Games in Korea - General Radovic said, adding that the competition, as well as the Camp, provided significant preparation for our athletes that will carry the flag of the Republic of Serbia and represent our Armed Forces.
In the fierce competition, SAF members achieved satisfactory results this year as well - the bronze medal in the women's competition was won by Lieutenant Nevena Jovanovic, the fourth place was taken Mariana Lukic Cegar, and professional soldier Ivana Petrovic also successfully completed the race. With such results, the members of our Armed Forces took the second place in the team standings in the women's competition.
This year, the competition in mountain running on Kopaonik gathered 75 athletes that aimed at mastering the demanding mountain path, 8.8 kilometers long for men, or three laps, and 6 kilometers for women, or two laps, and, along with the host – the Serbian Armed Forces, members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Slovenia and Montenegro competed as well.
