Dr Olivera Jovanovic, doctor at the Military Medical Academy, who was deployed in the first rotation of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, died last night due to a severe form of malaria. Dr Jovanovic was admitted into the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases at the Military Medical Academy on 6 July, in grave general condition with symptoms and signs of multiple organs shutting down, of which we had previously notified the public. During the hospitalization, all necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures were conducted in treating the most severe form of malaria and its complications.

The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces mourn the loss of Dr Jovanovic, who was decorated with the medal for UN service with her other colleagues.

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic and Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic have sent their condolences to the Jovanovic family.

Dr Olivera Jovanovic, specialist in radiology, was employed at the Institute for Radiology at the Military Medical Academy, and had been working at the Ministry of Defence since 1995. In the MINUSCA mission in the Central African Republic, she conducted duties of radiology doctor in the level 2 military hospital.
