Report on the work of the Ministry of Defence

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic presented to the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly the three-month report on the work of the Ministry of Defence for the period between April and June this year.

He said that, in the first half of the year, the Ministry of Defence had spent 42% of the planned budget for 2015, i.e. that out of allocated 53,7 billion dinars 23 billion had been spent, which, as he explained, truly demonstrated the rational relation to the budgetary means allocated for the defence system. At the same time, 49% of plans in defence had been conducted.

Gasic stressed that the Ministry of Defence had the most balanced budget compared to other ministries, and that it was not true that there was not enough means in the budget for the modernization of the military. He said that it was expected for the modernization of means to begin soon after the passing of the new law on public procurement.

Minister of Defence stressed that the interest for voluntary military service was still remarkably large and that 600 candidates, including 49 women, had applied in June.

Reporting to the members of the Board, Gasic said that 336 SAF members were currently deployed in 10 EU and UN missions. Gasic also added that the Ministry of Defence made efforts to improve the status of members of the defence system, and that the housing issue had been resolved for 314 SAF members in the first half of the year. It is expected that the housing issue of 700 MoD and SAF members will be resolved by the end of the year.
