Misic's Days opened



In Mionica near Valjevo, the 19th Misic’s Days were opened tonight, which will last until Sunday, 19 July. The traditional five-day event under the auspices of the Municipality of Mionica is held in the year of jubilees - 160 years since the birth of Duke Zivojin Misic, the 200th anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising and 120 years since Mionica was declared a town.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Serbian Orthodox Church and many citizens.

The flag of Misic’s Days was raised on the flagpole in front of the Municipal Assembly by SAF Non-commissioned Officer Sergeant Vidosav Pantelic from the Second Training Centre of the Training Command, and then Mayor of Mionica Boban Jankovic declared this year's Misic’s Days open.

President of the Municipality of Mionica Boban Jankovic handed the Golden Plaques "Duke Zivojin Misic" for achieved results and achievements in the field of military service, science and doctrine, which the Municipality had introduced in 2001. This year, the winners of this award were Lieutenant General Djokica Petrovic, Commander of the Training Command, and Lieutenant Colonel Djuro Jovanic, the first in rank of the 58th class of the General Staff Course.

On the occasion of the beginning of Misic’s Days, wreaths were laid at the monument to Duke Zivojin Misic in the town square in front of the municipal building in the afternoon hours by delegations of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, Municipality of Mionica, Ministry of Interior and veteran organizations.

In Misic’s birthplace Struganik, next to birth house, a historical class was held at the during which curator Svetolik Nikolic, in choice words, spoke of heroism, war ethics and patriotism of Zivojin Misic, Zuca of Mionica.

During Misic’s Days, the Municipality of Mionica also traditionally awards Plaques with the coat of arms of the municipality. This year, the winners of this prestigious prize were Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic, President of the Municipality of Ub Darko Glisic and Jovana Rafailovic, pupil of the year of Elementary School "Milan Rakic". Posthumous Plaque with the coat of arms of the municipality was awarded to former President of the Municipality of Mionica Milan Matic.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the artistic program was complemented with an excerpt from the theater play Misici and a concert held by Biljana Krstic and "Bistrik" Orchestra.
