Meeting of Minister of Defence and Ambassador of Slovakia
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic received Ambassador of the Republic of Slovakia Jan Varso in his farewell visit, and thanked him for the cooperation during his duty in Serbia.
During the talks, Gasic and Varso confirmed that the relations between the two countries were traditionally friendly. A special contribution to the good relations is added by the Slovakian minority in Serbia and the Serbian community in Slovakia. Gasic stressed that Serbia highly appreciated the principled opinion of Slovakia about not recognizing the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence.Minister of Defence pointed out the good cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovakia, which is the Contact Embassy for cooperation of Serbia with NATO from 2013 to 2016. The adoption of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) is a confirmation of improvement of partnership relations with NATO and strengthening of political dialogue, in accordance with the military neutrality policy. Minister Gasic said that the recent ratification of the SOFA PfP Agreement was important for the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces for the participation in exercises within the Partnership for Peace Program.
Minister Gasic and Ambassador Varso agreed that the joint deployment in the UN mission in Cyprus represented a good example of cooperation in multinational operations.
