Military facilities under reconstruction

In the previous period, renovation and rehabilitation of a number of military facilities in Belgrade and in Serbia have been initiated. The aforementioned works improved the conditions for the training, life and work of members of the military. With the involvement of MoD and SAF, a great help in the execution of the works was provided by the local government, with which the military traditionally has good relations.

A tour of one of these objects - the renovated part of the Independent automatic shooting range "Bubanj potok" was organized for media representatives today.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces Corvette Captain Jovan Krivokapic said that members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were constantly working on the renovation of barracks and military facilities and training areas to improve quality of life and work of the defence system members.

- Most of the work we carry out on our own, but we have also been given significant help by local authorities and local companies. Cooperation with them is very good and positively assessed, and I would point out as examples the re-opening of the barracks in Pozega and Zrenjanin, where, thanks to cooperation, military installations and cities were "revived". Also, an example of good cooperation with the local government is the installation of the system for drinking water in the Sombor barracks "Airport" - Corvette Captain Krivokapic said.

According to him, the clearing of the plateau, approach, and removal of destroyed buildings during the NATO aggression are also under way, and in the forthcoming period, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia will continue with these activities.

- We launched the initiative and made the decision to clear destroyed buildings at the airport "Lađevci" as well as several facilities in various locations in Kraljevo, in Sabac barracks where the pontoon battalion is deployed, and a new "revival" of barracks in Surdulica and Pirot is planned. This is very important because the military is a part of the people and the cooperation with the local community is of great importance – the MoD and SAF spokesman said, and added that the presence of the military in the cities contributed to economic and social life in these areas.

One of the renovated and restored buildings of SAF is the shooting range "Bubanj potok", which suffered significant destruction during the NATO bombing. Following the decision of the Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic, SAF units have cleared and settled 5.6 hectares of land, prepared two drainage channels with a length of 500 meters, and 1,780 meters of the river have been cleaned and channeled and removed, and the waste has been removed from the shooting range. Two Bailey bridge constructions and 13 buildings damaged during the NATO aggression have also been removed.

70,000 cubic meters of land have been cleared and leveled and 180 cubic meters of trees harvested and relocated, with all the necessary permits of "Serbia forests". In removing the metal construction of two buildings, the company "14. October " from Krusevac helped, without any compensation, done at the initiative of the Minister of Defence.

At the barracks "Svetozar Toza Markovic" in Zrenjanin, the kitchen-dining block has been completely renovated, the roof and gutters repaired, as well as installations for heating and power plants in the building. The realization of these works created conditions for accommodation and work of units from the 1st Army Brigade. With the support of the local government of the City of Zrenjanin, the barracks and the existing infrastructure have been decorated by PUC "Cleanliness and countryside," Directorate for Construction and Organization of the City of Zrenjanin, "Water and sanitation" and "Serbian forests". The most important works that the local government financed are the paving of lineup area and driveways in the Zrenjanin barracks.

In the "Car Lazar" barracks in Krusevac, adaptation and reconstruction of a part of the wing of the ground floor of the block "A" have been conducted, i.e. the apartments have been equipped with sewage system. Works on organization of traffic in the barracks, as well as the reconstruction of the parking lot have been done upon the orders of the Minister of Defence. The works were realized by the enterprise "Krusevac put”, which donated works and materials.

In Karadjordjevo, the House on the water and Carda have been renovated, as well as the main object of the representative complex, and barracks "Airport" in Sombor, in April this year, was first connected to the city water supply. Works were done by the company “Vodokanal" Sombor, and a part of the lineup runway was done.

In the recent period, significant work has also been completed in the barracks "Petar Lekovic" and "Vlada Radovanovic" in Pozega, at the CBRN Ravnjak training field near Krusevac, the Forest House on Tara, the barracks "Topcider", representative object Dobanovci, and others.

The initiative for self-arrangement and clearing of facilities is stimulated and rewarded at the Serbian Armed Forces.
