The exhibition �Syrmian Front and victory over fascism� opened in Novi Sad



У Новом Саду отворена изложба „Сремски фронт и победа над фашизмом“On the occasion of the grand jubilee of 70 years of the victory over fascism and the end of WWII at the museum facilities of the Petrovaradin Fortress, the exhibition “Syrmian Front and victory over fascism” was opened, which was prepared by the Military Museum and the Museum and Archive of the City of Novi Sad. The exhibition was opened by Acting Assistant Minister for human resources Milos Jankovic.

- The Syrmian Front is a symbol of devastation of the youth of the fatherland. Insipred by the idea of freedom, in combat mood, young heroes of the Syrmian Front provided tough resistance to the enemy. The breakthrough of the Syrmian Front began on 12th April 1945, at dawn. With the takeover of Vinkovci and Zupanja, the First Army broke through the Front along the entire depth and opened up the path for further combat actions, to victory – Jankovic said, reminding of the importance of this grand epopee of the People’s Liberation War.

The visitors were also addressed by Milos Vucevic, Mayor of Novi Sad and Vesna Jovicic, Director of the City Museum of Novi Sad.

У Новом Саду отворена изложба „Сремски фронт и победа над фашизмом“Over 200 presented items of armament, uniforms, flags, decorations and documents that had been in possession of the Yugoslav and the Red Army, the enemy German and Ustashe Militia and individuals, speak of the whole drama of several months of combat in the Syrmian plain.

Among the presented items that testify about the unique epopee of the Syrmian Front and the final battle of Yugoslavia and the enemy forces, there are many that have been presented to the public for the first time. The captured Nazi flag, sword of Nazi General Alexander von Löhr, Commander of E Army Group, and a dozen posters as important means of propaganda are some of the items.

The authors of the exhibition, Dusanka Maricic, historian and higher curator of the Military Museum, Sinisa Jokic, curator of the City Museum in Novi Sad and technical adviser Atila Hornjak worked for over half a year on depicting the gloriousness of the victory as realistic as possible for the visitors.

upcoming opening of the exhibition “Syrmian Front and victory over fascism” in the City Museum in Novi Sad at Petrovaradin Fortress, today, a press conference was held, where this important exhibition was presented by Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Nusic, Head of the Museum Department of the Military Museum, Vesna Jovicic, Director of the City Museum of Novi Sad, Petar Djurdjev, Director of the Historical Archive of Novi Sad, and MSc.

The exhibition was made by Dusanka Maricic, Sinisa Jokic and, and is set up at the City Museum in Novi Sad at Petrovaradin Fortress on the occasion of the great jubilee – 70 years of victory over fascism and the end of WWII. It was jointly prepared by the Military Museum, City Museum of Novi Sad and the Historical Archive of the City of Novi Sad.

The exhibition “Syrmian Front and victory over fascism” will be opened on 25th June at 13.00, and it will be available to the public for the next three months.
