Monograph "Military Museum 1878-2014"
State Secretary Djordjevic stressed that the Military Museum, with 137 years of tradition, took an important place, not only in the military, but primarily in the cultural and historical sense, because it had been dedicated for over a century to its mission of collecting, preserving and presenting items that testify about the dark history of the people in this territory.
He stressed that this was a richly illustrated monograph that included data collected from multiple archives, which testified not only about the life of the Museum, but also that of the Serbian Army and the entire Serbian people.
On behalf of the publisher, Odbrana Media Center, Deputy Director Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Krupez addressed the guests and stressed that the work would also be presented at the Belgrade Book Fair, for which Odbrana Media Center is already preparing.
Academic Ljubodrag Dimic, also the reviewer of the monograph, had the chance to follow its development from the basic idea, magister work, to today’s promotion. He stated that the author had also perceived the life of a Serb, the public institution and the entire country through the prism of life of the Military Museum, and that he had supported his conclusions with extensive research.
The author of the book said that, while preparing this project, he had encountered data that testified that the Military Museum, from the day of it foundation until today, had always chosen top experts, and that it was thus not surprising that the setups at this cultural institutions had always been among the most visited ones in our country. He thanked the Ministry of Defence and Odbrana Media Center for their cooperation, stressing that, without them and the dedicated help of the employees at the Museum, the monograph would have never seen the light of day.
The monograph includes the rich history of the Military Museum, functioning of the institutions during the first decades of its existence, the Great and Second World War, the post-war development, work in the years of the breakup of Yugoslavia and the wars in the ‘90s, and the activity and social role of the Military Museum in those periods.
