100 years of the Service of Air Surveillance and Reporting marked



With a ceremonial academy and premiere projection of documentary film “War notebook of the 126th VOJIN Brigade”, today, in the House of the Guard in Topcider, a century of the Service of Air Surveillance and Reporting was marked. The ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic, Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic with collegium, members of families of the killed members and retired members of the service.

Colonel Predrag Djordjevic, Commander of the 126th VOJIN Brigade spoke about the unit that has the same task in wartime and in peacetime – constant control over Serbian air space, and reminded of the rich history and the most prominent moments in the technological development of the service.
- Today, the service is organized with the reliance on Air Force units, and the carrier of air surveillance and reporting is 126th VOJIN Brigade. The brigade is constantly, 365 days a year, active in the on-cal system of Air Defence, conducting tasks from the domain of air space control, realizing the first task from the first SAF mission – Colonel Djordjevic stressed, with an emphasis on 1999 and the heroism that members of the service had shown during the bombing of our country, when they lost two of their colleagues.

Colonel Djordjevic reminded that, for the shown courage and selfless dedication of all members of the unit, 126th VOJIN Brigade had been decorated with the Order of the People's Hero.

According to him, the challenge that he service is facing today is daily maintenance of the equipment with all resources expired, and he conveyed his belief that a period of modernization of the existing means would ensue.

Displaying the dramatic events from the period of NATO aggression and the people who remained the entire 78 days in their surveillance and radar positions, the documentary, filmed in cooperation between 126th VOJIN Brigade and “Zastava Film” brings us back to the time of deafening and ominous sirens of night flypasts of bombers, bombs and devastation, and in the time of heroic defence where each member of the Army conducted the assigned tasks with full commitment.

In the 30 days of shooting in objects of 126th VOJIN Brigade, on radar positions and other places where, during the defence from the aggression, members of the unit were, a lot of material was shot, including he reconstructions of some of the events.

Director of the film is Danilo Paskvan, and director of photography Zarko Pekez and editor Dusan Milunovic from “Zastava Film” also participated in the making of the film, which will also be available for the public.

During the today’s ceremony, Colonel Djordjevic handed over plaques and letters of thanks to General Dikovic, director of the documentary Danilo Paskvan, Director of Zastava Film Lieutenant Colonel Mate Vujnovic, and deserving individuals and companies.
