Ministry of Defence takes care of its housing fund

Regarding the media allegations that the Ministry of Defence does not take care about the apartments in its possession, we notify the public that the apartment in Mihaila Pupina Boulevard 97/1 in Belgrade, whose photographs were published to support the allegations about the “unhostly” management over the housing fund, was illegally inhabited until 2014. It was illegally used by Tomislav Jovanovic from Belgrade, who did not pay for electric bills, so the allegations that the apartment “has been vacant for years” owing to the recklessness of the Ministry of Defence are completely false.

We also point out that, on the call of the President of the Assembly of residents of the building, the team of the Military Institution Belgrade-2 immediately went to the field in order to resolve the issue of the outpouring of the sewage in the aforementioned apartment.

We also stress that, after years of misuse and illegal use of housing and business space, in early January this year, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic formed the Workgroup for determining the lawfulness of the management of real estate used by the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

In just four months, the Workgroup checked the basis of use for 216 apartments, adapted and business space in several cities in Serbia. 15 residential spaces has already been returned to the Military Construction Centre Belgrade due to illegal use. In most of them, bills were also unpaid. The returned apartments will be given to the housing fund, which will assign them to MoD and SAF members in the regular procedure.

The Workgroup continues controlling the lawfulness of the use of the apartments, business spaces, garages, objects and lands with the goal of taking over all real estate that is not legally or properly used for future use in accordance with the law.
