Developing cooperation with Belgium



Minister of Defence spoke with Chief of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium General Gerard Van Caelenberge about the options for the intensification of cooperation between the two countries in the field of defence.

Considering the influential role of Belgium in the European Union, Minister Gasic underscored the importance and the necessity of development of quality relations between the two countries, which could be greatly supported by military cooperation.

Minister Gasic and General Caelenberge stated that the current cooperation in the field of defence was modest, but with various options for the situation to change. To that effect, they discussed possibilities of cooperation of special units, training centres, and cooperation in the field of logistics and engineering.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubisa Dikovic, the interlocutors also mentioned the current security situation in the world and in the region. They agreed that development of bilateral and multinational cooperation was the right way to overcome misunderstandings and crises.

With the goal of making the good cooperation between the two armed forces the support for overall relations between Serbia and Belgium, Minister Gasic sent an invitation to the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium Steven Vandeput to visit Serbia in the next period.
