Конференција за медије поводом снимања филма „Срби на Крфу“On Kozara, one of the oldest ships used in the Riverine Flotilla, a press conference was held today on the occasion of the beginning of shooting of documentary film “Serbs in Corfu”, which chronologically follows one of the greatest disasters of the Serbian military and people – the Albanian Golgotha. Author of the film is Sladjana Zaric, director Ivana Stevens, and the film was realized by the Radio Television of Serbia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy.

Commenting on the cooperation, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic stressed that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were always at disposal with all their available potentials to participate in large and important state projects such as that one, pointing out that, among the rest, another proof of that were the previous films by Sladjana Zaric.

- We are here to help save the Serbian history from oblivion and to teach the future generations about the hardships of Serbia throughout its rich history – Minister Gasic said.

Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin said that the Ministry had the legal obligation to foster liberation traditions, and, more importantly, the duty to help the future generations learn our history and adopt the most glorious examples of our people.

- A people with a history such as ours has nothing to be ashamed of, to stay silent or to allow anyone to think that Serbs are a people with no history – Vulin said, stressing that, even 100 years after the end of the Great War, our children did not know enough about years of the suffering and demise of the Serbian people, and that the film was a chance to show them the greatness of their ancestors.

During the one-hour sailing on Kozara, where first shots of the film had been made, a premiere of a part of the shot material was shown, in which previously unpublished photographs and archive build documented during the evacuation to Corfu were used.

According to professor at the Faculty of Philosophy Dr. Milos Kovic, this was a project whose task was to introduce the public with the glorious pages of the Serbian history, stressing that during the Great War foundations had been made for the modern Serbian national identity. Professor Kovic is the presenter in the film, who tries to depict at least a part of the Albanian Golgotha through real-life stories in authentic locations that the Serbian Army crossed in the winter of 1915-1916.

Конференција за медије поводом снимања филма „Срби на Крфу“Author of the film Sladjana Zaric thanked the ministries for their support, and the Embassy of the Great Britain that had enabled researches in London. She said that, for the time being, a part of the film had been shot in Serbia and in England, and that the shootings in locations in Kosovo, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, France and Greece would follow.

- Locations are dominant in the film, and, in each location, historians will tell authentic stories based on testimonials of people that had gone through the Albanian Golgotha. In the archives of the countries that helped Serbia at the time, there are still unpublished video and photo materials of the evacuation of the soldiers and civilians, and interesting war journals that provide a new view of the events – Zaric said. She found documents in British archives in which British diplomats had written about the strength and will of the Serbian Army for survival. She announced that the film’s premiere would be shown next year in Corfu, in marking of the centenary of the arrival of the Serbian Army to the Greek island.

The press conference was attended by Ambassador of the Great Britain to Serbia Denis Keefe, and military attachés of France, Italy and Great Britain.
