General Draganic at the meeting of Deputy Chiefs of the General Staffs of South-Eastern European countries



Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces attended the meeting of Deputy Chiefs of the General Staffs of the member countries of the SEDM Initiative (South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process), which was held today in Tirana.

Генерал Драганић на састанку заменика начелника генералштабова земаља Југоисточне ЕвропеThe meeting was attended by delegations of 14 countries – members of the SEDM Initiative (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, USA, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia and Montenegro), delegation of Georgia as an observer country and delegations of international organizations. Participants agreed that the regional military cooperation was greatly important for the security and stability in the region.

In his address, General Draganic stressed the importance of regional cooperation and informed the participants of the meeting about the engagement of the Serbian Armed Forces in UN and EU multinational operations, and about the multinational military exercises organized in our country.

The Initiative was started in 1996, in Tirana, with the intention of strengthening cooperation between the Southeastern European countries and USA. The main goals of SEDM are the improvement of understanding and intensification of political-military cooperation in the region, in order to strengthen stability in this part of Europe.

In he margins of the meeting, General Draganic spoke with Deputy Chief of General Staff of Bulgarian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Constantin Popov. The two generals discussed the improvement of the bilateral cooperation in the field of defence.
