Opening of the exhibition Art in the spiritual exile in the Central Military Club
This is an exhibition-publishing project, which is the result of cooperation between the Museum and Odbrana Media Center, created from the long-lasting research in the field of alternative, free artistic expressions of artists with raw vision, whose creation is a parallel artistic world that brings new dimensions in the contest of dominant culture and art.
According to Director of Odbrana Media Center Colonel Stevica Karapandzin, this year marks 70 years of the Grand Gallery within the former Veteran House, and over 70 thousand art enthusiasts had visited the institution last year.
- A soldier’s role is to preserve peace, and this is primarily done by building inner peace. Culture is one of the things that help us build the peace within, and around us – Colonel Karapandzin stated, pointing out the importance that Odbrana Media Center had had for years in the Belgrade cultural map.
Opening the exhibition, Director of Gugging Museum from Vienna Johann Feilacher said that the art presented here had always existed, but that it had been noticed by other artists only in 20th century, and was marked as “source art”, the one that had not been influenced.
- This was the fascination with the fact that art is created from within, and that it cannot be learnt solely at academies, based on certain role models, but that it comes from the man himself – Feilacher stressed, stating that Serbian marginal art is well known among German art enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
The book “Art in the spiritual exile” was presented by he author, and Natalija Cerovic, art historian, who particularly stressed the great contribution of this work by Nina Krstic in the sense of understanding marginal art and familiarization of broader audience to it.
The exhibition will be open until 15th July 2015 at the Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces, on workdays and Saturdays, from 11.00 to 19.00.
