Minister Gasic congratulates Russian Minister of Defence Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu on the occasion of the Victory Day

I congratulate you on the Victory Day, the holiday of freedom in the Great Patriotic War and victory over fascism, the greatest evil of the 20th century.

I am honoured and thankful for the invitation to attend the ceremony on the Red Square, but would also like to stress that Serbia will be worthily represented at the Parade of Victors, on the occasion of marking the 70th anniversary of the great victory of the Red Army and the Allies in the Second World War.

We marked these glorious days of joint combat of the Soviet Army and units of the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia last October in Belgrade with a great military parade, which was aggrandized by the attendance of Russia President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. This time, the magnificent Parade of Victors in Moscow will be attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic. Highest state-level attendances represent the historical bond between the Russian and the Serbian people, which is confirmed by these liberation ceremonies as the signpost for the future.

I am particularly proud that the Serbian Guard will march on the Red Square in the same line with victors, as it is our elite unit, born form the liberation tradition of the Serbian people and its fight for statehood and independence, in which the Army had a significant role. Today, the Guard represents the modern Serbian Armed Forces, dedicated to active and comprehensive military cooperation in the interest of peace and stability in the world.

On the occasion of the Victory Day, I also extend my sincere congratulations to all members of the Russian Armed Forces, with the wish that we may continue the successful cooperation of our two armies.
