Military Academy sailing team's success at the regatta in Italy



Велики успех војних једриличара на регати у ИталијиThe keel boat sailing team of the Military Academy achieved notable results at the prestigious regatta in Laverne, Italy, came in as the seventh team in the world and as the second in the qualifications for the countries of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

The Military Academy team included Frigate captain Svetislav Soskic, coach and team leader, while the crew was made up of Lt. Aleksandar Jovanovic from the Riverine Flotilla, as the skipper, and cadets Nikola Popov, Dusko Topalovic, Nikolina Popovic and Laza Lazarevic. The MA team underwent preparations on the Danube, using schooners borrowed from the AJK Sailing Club.
- This is the biggest success of our sailing representation in international competitions. We were the only continental team at the regatta that was prepared on the Sava and the Danube rivers, yet we managed to win other teams including those of Portugal, Chile, Bahrain, Slovenia, Canada and others - the team leader Frigate captain Soskic stated.

Велики успех војних једриличара на регати у ИталијиThe first place in the world and in the qualifications for the countries of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea was won by the Italian cadet team.

At the invitation of the Italian naval academy and the town of Laverne, this year, 17 countries accepted the invitation, competing in Trident 16 keel boat sailing. Besides military representations, 15 teams from Italy and the whole Europe also participated in the regatta.

The Trophy of the Naval Academy and the city of Laverne, which is the official name of this regatta, is one of the largest and best-organized regattas held at the Mediterranean, gathering around 2500 sailors worldwide every year. This regatta is also the world championship of military academies, and this was the 32nd regatta.
