International exercise LOGEX 15 began
At Banjica 2 barracks in Belgrade, the two-week multinational command-staff exercise LOGEX 15 with the use of LOGFAS software began today.
Head of the Logistics Department Brigadier General Zeljko Ninkovic expressed his content that, after two years of joint preparations, Serbia hosted such a large international logistics exercise.
- LOGEX 15 is the most important logistics exercise for the Serbian Armed Forces this year, and the lessons learned and the acquired knowledge will be valuable as future SAF’s deployments in multinational operations will demand greater engagement of the logistics staff trained accordingly to the logistics procedures and standards – General Ninkovic said, clarifying that the main idea of the exercise was to use the improved knowledge of the concept of multinational logistics support to overview the work of the logistics staff and units in a multinational environment, and to find and overcome differences in procedures of participant states.
The participants of the exercise were also addressed by US defence attaché Colonel Taft Blackburn and Director of the exercise Major Joshua Anderson.
Officers, noncommissioned officers and civilians of the Armed Forces of Sweden, Finland, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Moldova will take part in the exercise, and representatives of Armenia will participate as observers. In the next two weeks, 122 LOGEX 15 participants will conduct assigned suppositions where the focus will be on the need for reception coordination, admission and further course of the forces.
The focus of this year’s exercise, titled “Logistics support of multinational special purpose forces in the operation of responding to crises and preserving peace” is on preparation and deployment of special purpose unit at multinational brigade level in operation of crisis response, under the auspices of the United Nations, with and emphasis on the development of multinational logistics support.
LOGEX program is designed accordingly to the appropriate logistics standards and procedures, for providing support to partner countries in achieving and implementation of their partnership goals in the field of logistics, including logistics support of units deployed in multinational operations. It is realized in organization of the European Command of the US Armed Forces in cooperation with representatives of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, NATO Commands, agencies and sponsoring countries.
LOGEX logistics exercises are organized in a two-year cycle, with the goal of developing logistics capabilities, interoperability of participants in the processes of planning and realization of multinational operations. So far, the Republic of Serbia has twice been an observer at logistics exercises organized by the European Command of the US Armed Forces, and is the host for the first time this year.
