On the occasion of the Serbian Armed Forces Day and the marking of the two centuries since the beginning of the Second Serbia Uprising, an exhibition was opened today at the Gallery of the Military Museum, titled “The Second Serbian Uprising and the first rule of Prince Milos Obrenovic”, by higher curator of the Museum Andjelija Radovic. 150 items are displayed in the exhibition – arms, equipment, flags, decorations, portraits, aquarelles, inlays, and other testimonies of the time, divided in four thematic – periodic sections.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic, Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, Acting Assistant Minister for human resources Milos Jankovic, members of the Collegium of the Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff, and other visitors who enjoy reminiscing of the glorious history.

State Secretary Djordjevic, who opened the exhibition, spoke about the importance of the Uprising, the greatness of Prince Milos Obrenovic, and the great work of the Military Museum, and the guests were also addressed by Head of the Museology Department of the Military museum Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Nusic.

- This is an opportunity for all of us to remember the Uprising and the times when a courageous heart was needed, along with a wise head, with the help of the museum items, the guardians of our past and often the way-posts to our future. With this exhibition, we wish to revive and preserve the memory, and pay respects to Prince Milos Obrenovic and all brave insurgents who left a mark on the creation of the modern Serbian state with their deeds – State Secretary said.

Lastly, quoting the wisdom of the Latin proverb “History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illumines reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life, and brings us tidings of antiquity”, he wished for the Military Museum to continue being a persistent guardian of our history.

Lieutenant Colonel Nusic thanked the culture institutions and the museums that had helped in the realization of the exhibition and the marking of a historically important jubilee, and said that “the exhibition, with which we today mark two hundred years since the Second Serbian Uprising, consists of original items that genuinely testify of those times”.

The exhibition will be opened until 20th May.
