State ceremony of marking the anniversary of the Day of Rememberance of the beginning of WWII in Yugoslavia



Државна церемонија обележавања годишњице Дана сећања на пoчетак Другог светског рата у ЈугославијиThe central commemorative ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the beginning of the Second World War in Yugoslavia was held today at the Monument to pilots killed in the April war at Zemunski Kej.

The commemorative ceremony with state and military honors was headed by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic, who, accompanied by the MoD and SAF delegation, laid a wreath next to monument. Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali, representatives of associations that foster the traditions of liberation wars, aviation association, non-government organizations, survivors, and descendants of the killed also paid their respects to the fallen victims with laying of wreaths.

On April 6, 1941, at 6.30 AM, air forces of the Third Reich bombarded Belgrade in four turns: on April 6, and on April 7, 11, and 12 the same year. The capital was defended by the elite Sixth Fighter Regiment and Air Defence units of the Belgrade Air Zone, and 11 Yugoslav pilots were killed in air combats.
