Donation of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia to Vrdnik Monastery

Upon the plea of hegumenia and the sisterhood of Ravanica Monastery in Vrdnik, in the wake of the greatest Christian holiday – Easter, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia have donated 25 layer chickens to this monastery on Fruska Gora.

Receiving the layer chickens from Colonel Sinisa Kresovic from the Ministry of Defence and head military priest at the Armed Forces of Serbia father Sladjan Vlajic, sister Marija, traditionally in charge of monastery poultry, thanked the military and all kind people who selflessly help the monastery and make the sisterhood’s life easier.

Vrdnik Monastery, with the Church dedicated to the Ascension of Christ, was built in the 16th century, and was inhabited after the Great Migration of Serbs in 1690 by monks of Ravanica Monastery, when it was named Ravanica of Srem.

The rebirth of the cult of Prince Lazar is also attributed to the fact that this very monastery today contains the coffin with the remains of the holy prince.
