Continued cooperation in the field of defence with China



Head of the International Military Cooperation Department Battleship Captain Milan Konjikovac spoke today with military, naval and aviation defence attaché of the People’s Republic of China Senior Colonel Wang Haibin.

It was stressed that there is a high level of agreement between the two countries about most important issues, such as PR China’s support for preserved sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and our support for the policy of “one China”. Furthermore, both sides expressed their belief that dialogue represents the best solution for overcoming all disputes and issues.

During the talks, it was stated that the strategic partnership of the two traditionally friendly countries is being confirmed by the increasingly comprehensive cooperation in the field of defence. It was concluded that the past high-level meetings had given added impulse to the cooperation and contributed to its qualitative and quantitative improvement.

Battleship Captain Konjikovac informed his interlocutor about foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia, and restated the commitment to the military neutrality concept and the efforts to cooperate equally with all Western and Eastern partners. He also introduced him with MoD activities in the process of accession to the European Union, and with measures taken with the goal of improving capacity and capability for Serbia’s chairing over OSCE and deployment in multinational operations. He thanked for the help that the People's Liberation Army had sent the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia after the disastrous floods in 2014, which had proven the sincere relations between the two armed forces and the two people.

Senior Colonel Haibin expressed his wish for the great cooperation to continue in the future as well, pointing out the excellent communication with the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia.

The key fields of cooperation in the next period will be continuation of high-level visits and further development of military educational and military economic cooperation, while seeking possibilities for improving military technical cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2015 was signed.
