Exhibition â��Momo Kapor in Studioâ�� opened

The Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club of Serbia will become an atelier of Momo Kapor for one month. Tonight, the exhibition “Momo Kapor in Studio” was opened, as a joint endeavor of the Momo Kapor Endowment and Odbrana Media Center. The ceremonial opening was held at the Gala Hall of the Central Military Club of Serbia, with numerous guests, Momo’s friends, colleagues and admirers.

The program was hosted by actress Vjera Mujovic, and the guests were addressed by Colonel Stevica S. Karapandzin, Director of Odbrana Media Center, Vladan Vuksanovic, Secretary of Culture of the City of Belgrade, Ljiljana Kapor, founder of Momcilo Momo Kapor Endowment and Dragan Lakicevic, Editor at the Serbian Literary Cooperative.

This is the third grand exhibition of Momo’s work held at the Central Military Club. The guests were reminded of this fact by Colonel Karapandzin.

“With the intention to support this institution with monumental pillars of Serbian culture, with works of most prominent Serbian artists, in the past five years, since the death of Momo Kapor, we have organized exhibitions of his work twice. We follow the same tradition today”, Director of Odbrana Media Center said.

Momo Kapor is one of the symbols of Belgrade. He loved Belgrade and his citizens and could present the Belgrade charm into words or drawings better than anyone else could. Secretary of Culture of the City of Belgrade spoke about Momo’s importance for our city.

“In the times when red aristocracy flourished in this country, and old aristocracy withered and melted like a snowball in the sun, Momo Kapor was a member of aristocracy of a different kind – he was an aristocrat of spirit. In every sense, he was the prince of the Belgrade culture”, Vladan Vuksanovic said.

At the exhibition at the Central Military Club, visitors will be able to see a part of Kapor’s atelier from his apartment in Neimar. They will have the chance to see the material he used for painting, to smell the scent of colors, touch his canvas, and experience the ambience in which he created.

“One can never understand a lot about a painter in a short time unless they see his studio, apartment or house where he lives. Each one of us has wished at least once to take a peek into the world of a beloved artist”, Ljiljana Kapor explained the need to show the visitors not only the paintings, but also the space where they had been created.

At the ceremonial opening, two books of his interviews were also presented: “The sentimental baggage of Momo Kapor” and “The sentimental war and peace of Momo Kapor”, published by Momcilo Momo Kapor Endowment and the Serbian Literary Cooperative. The books are directly related to the exhibition, because, in them ,among the rest, the artist answered many questions about painting and fine arts in general. Excerpts from the book was read by actress Rada Djuricin, and the exhibition was opened by painter and a member of Managing Board of the Endowment Milos Sobajic.

At the end of the program, parts from the short film about Momo Kapor, which will be playing at the Grand Gallery throughout the exhibition, were played.

Admirers of Momo’s art will be able to see the exhibition until April 18, every day except Sunday, 11.00 – 19.00.
