Acknowledgements for Serbian peacekeepers in Cyprus
Receiving UN medals is a proud moment for every member of peacekeeping operations and an acknowledgement for their contribution to achieving and preserving world peace. This is also true for UNFICYP multinational operation in Cyprus, where, according to the tradition, a medal awarding ceremony is held during the winter season each year. The medal awarding ceremony was held for members of the Sector 4 at the Camp General Stefanik in Famagusta, and it was attended by 25 members of the Serbian contingent. Lisa Buttenheim, Chief of the Cyprus mission, awarded the medals to them and their colleagues, members of the Slovakian, Hungarian and Ukrainian contingent.
Other members of the Serbian contingent were awarded with the UN medals at the winter medal awarding ceremony, at the end of February, at the UN buffer zone in Nicosia.
Aside from the awarded UN medals, three members of the Serbian contingent also received acknowledgments from the Force Commander General Kristin Lund, as recognition for extraordinary efforts and achieved results in conducting their duties during their deployment in the multinational operation in Cyprus.
