Positive trend in cooperation with Spain

Defence Attaché of the Kingdom of Spain in Athens, Navy Captain Jose Ochoa, who is covering the Republic of Serbia on a non-residential basis, visited the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, where he met with the Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation, Navy Captain Milan Konjikovac.

Captain Konjikovac introduced his interlocutor to the achievements of the defence reform in the Republic of Serbia. He reiterated gratitude to the Kingdom of Spain for not recognising the unilaterally declared independence of "Kosovo" and continued support for European integration of the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides agreed that there has been progress in cooperation in the field of defence after the bilateral defence consultations in Spain at the end of 2014. Arranged visits of the Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic to Spain and of the Chief of General Staff Admiral Fernando Garcia Sanchez to Serbia by the end of the year are in support of this.

Joint preparations, training and employment of the members of the two armies in the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon give special dimension to defence cooperation.

Positive experiences, gained trust and strong relations from joint engagement in the UN mission in Lebanon, as well as the high level of understanding of global issues, represent an excellent basis for further promotion of cooperation in the field of defence.

During his visit to Belgrade Navy Captain Ochoa had direct consultations with members of the organizational units of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
