Minister Gasic talks with President of the Committee for Defence and Security in Iraq

Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic began his official visit to Iraq meeting with the head of the Parliament Committee on Security and Defiance of this country, Hakim Zamili,

The main topics at the meeting of the two officials were security challenges, where terrorism and religious extremism were pointed out as the biggest threats. Gasic and Zamili agreed that these phenomena jeopardise the free and democratic world. Minister Gasic introduced Zamili to the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Defence in order to improve the capacities and capabilities for the Serbia’s chairmanship of OSCE and contribution in solving the current crisis situation.

After the meeting Gasic stressed that Serbia and Iraq have more than 60 years long tradition of bilateral relations and that he is pleased that after a long period one of the Serbian Ministers of Defence paid an official visit to Iraq.

He added that Serbia and Iraq have been cooperating more than 30 years in the fields of infrastructure, military education and military industry.

"As it happens always between two good friends, we sincerely hope that we will continue that mutual cooperation in the forthcoming period", Gasic said.

Serbian Defence Minister continues his visit to Iraq, which will last until the 26th February, by meetings with Prime Minister Haider al Abadi and Defence Minister Khalid Yassin al-Obeidi, which are to be held tomorrow.
