Political security consultations with the Federal Ministry of Defence of Germany



Political security consultations between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany were held on February 10-12, 2015 in Berlin.

Политичко-безбедносне консултације са Савезним министарством одбране НемачкеHead of the Department for International Military Cooperation Naval Captain Milan Konjikovac and Head of the Department of Security Policy and Bilateral Relations Naval Captain Axel Deertz exchanged during an open and constructive dialogue opinions on current regional and global security topics, reforms of defence systems of the two countries, analyzed cooperation in the field of defence in the past period and considered possibilities for its qualitative improvement.

Naval Captain Konjikovac introduced his interlocutor with the achievements and expectations of the Republic of Serbia in the process of Euro integrations, Serbia’s priorities for its chairing over OSCE, the importance of active participation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia in regional security initiatives and cooperation mechanisms in the course of the Partnership for Peace program. He particularly thanked for the professionalism of the German contingent in KFOR formations.

Head of the Department for International Military Cooperation Naval Captain Konjikovac conveyed his content with the achieved level of cooperation in the field of defence between Serbia and Germany, stressing that, even though the cooperation is greatly developed and substantial, there is room for its qualitative and quantitative improvement. The beginning of joint deployment in EUTM mission in Mali in December last year was a significant step that gave the cooperation in the field of defence a new dimension and that will, in the long term, contribute to improvement of overall bilateral relations between the two countries. Naval Captain Konjikovac pointed out the importance of continuous high-level visits and improvement of military economic cooperation.

Naval Captain Deertz stressed that Germany takes the successful Euro integrations of the Republic of Serbia are of special importance for Germany, and he commended the beginning of the important joint deployment in EUTM Mali, which he characterized as the pinnacle of present bilateral military cooperation. He agreed with the importance of substantial improvement of bilateral military cooperation and the continuation of deployment of the German contingent in Kosovo and Metohija.

During the visit, at the Joint Forces Operations Command at Potsdam, the delegation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia was presented with missions, tasks and command structure, and current missions where members of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany are deployed.
