Day of the Military Hospital Nis marked



Обележен Дан Војне болнице НишThe Military Hospital Nis celebrated today its 137th anniversary. On this occasion, representatives of this military medical institution traditionally laid wreaths at the monument built in 1915 by doctors to their patients and colleagues who died in the times of a severe typhus epidemic. Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Association of warrior descendants 1912-1920, Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center and Kolo of Serbian Sisters who also paid their respects to doctors and medical staff of the Russian Royal Military Deployable Medical Facility that worked in this part of Serbia during the Great War.

On the occasion of marking of the Day of Military Hospital, an osteodensitometer – a machine for measuring bone thickness was released into work at the intern ward, while a ceremonial academy was held at the Military Club in Nis, with representatives of the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces of Serbia, the City of Nis, city and nearby municipalities, and the Nisava District.

- The Military Hospital is still in the same place where it was formed 10 days after the liberation of Nis from the Turks, where a Turkish military hospital had previously been. It was the only hospital in Nis until 1881, and after that it continued immeasurably contributing to the development of healthcare institutions in Nis, such as District Hospital and Pasterov Institution – Lieutenant Colonel Goran Damnjanovic, MD, the Manager of the Hospital said at the ceremony, adding that, today, the Military Hospital is a contemporary military medical institution, whose greatest riches lie in its professional and hardworking staff.

Members of the Nis Military Hospital have been deployed in peacekeeping operations across the world since 1973, and to this day they have given their contribution. By signing the contract with the National Health Insurance Fund, treatment at the Hospital has become available for the insured civilians.

Yesterday, at the Hall of the Military Club, a photography exhibition “Serbia will remember the allied Bizerte” was opened, prepared by retired Lieutenant Colonel Luka Nikolic and it will be opened in Nis until January 28.
