Meeting of Ministers of Defence of Serbia and China




Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic began his five-day visit to the People’s Republic of China with a meeting with Minister of the National Defence of China Colonel General Chang Wanquan.

Gasic and Wanquan concluded that the overall relations between the two countries are very good and traditionally friendly. Minister Gasic stressed that the arrival of Prime Minister Li Keqiang to the third Summit of China and countries of Central and Eastern Europe in Belgrade in December will be a great incentive for further improvement and intensifying of cooperation between the two countries.

Ministers discussed current political security matters and signed the Agreement on military donation of the People’s Republic of China worth 7 million yuans, or 1.1 million dollars.

Gasic thanked the Ministry of Defence of China for the donations in informatics equipment and ambulance terrain vehicles and for their help after the floods in Serbia in May.

During the talks, they have stressed the importance of military educational cooperation between the two countries. Defence Ministers also discussed further development of military economic, military technical and military medical cooperation. Gasic stressed that, based on the agreement between the two Ministries, a link has been posted on the official website of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia to the website of the Ministry of National Defence of China as the only link to a foreign defence ministry.

Before the meeting with his Chinese colleague, Minister Gasic laid wreaths at the Monument to National Heroes at the Tiananmen Square.
