Minister Gasic visiting Belarus
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic met in Minsk with Minister of Defence of Belarus Lieutenant General Yury Viktorovich Zhadobin. They stated that the overall political relations between the two countries are great and without any open issues.During the talks about the current political security topics, Gasic stressed that Serbia’s chairing at OSCE in 2015 represents a great honor for our country, and also brings great responsibility, having in mind serious crises and conflicts that are occurring in different parts of the world.
Discussing the Ukrainian crisis, Gasic stressed that Serbia respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN states and that it is dedicated to resolution of all issues. He also underlined that imposing sanctions on Russia is not being considered, bearing in mind the traditional friendship of the two people that has lasted for centuries.
Gasic stated that EU membership is our strategic goal, and that Serbia wants to establish cooperation and good relations with all Eastern and Western partners. He pointed out that cooperation with NATO is being conducted within the frame of the Partnership for Peace and that Serbia continues conducting the policy of military neutrality.
The ministers signed the Agreement on Cooperation in the field of defence, which will create the formal and legal frame for further improvement of cooperation.
Gasic and Zhadobin agreed that there is room for improving and intensifying bilateral military cooperation, which is presently conducted in military economic and scientific technical fields. The ministers agreed that regular bilateral consultations are to be carried out yearly, in order to define cooperation modalities. They suggested establishing cooperation between military intelligence and security agencies in fight against terrorism, and establishing military-to-military, military educational and military medical cooperation.Minister of Defence also talked with Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Petr Prokopovich and Igor Bykov, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee.
Gasic will visit the Military Academy and the 558th Aircraft Repair Facility and will lay wreaths at the Obelisk Monument at the Victory Square in Minsk.
