Day of Financial Service marked

State Secretary Zoran Djordjevic received the delegation of the Financial Service of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, headed by Head of the Budget Department and Chief of the Budget and Finances Sector Colonel Sasa Trandafilovic, PhD, on the occasion of the Day of Financial Service.

The delegation included heads of financial services of the General Staff of Serbia, Military Intelligence Agency, Defence Inspectorate, organizational units of the Ministry of Defence and the Head of the Military Academy Public Finance Department.

During the talks with the State Secretary, it has been concluded that there can be no efiicient and effective organization without a well-organized financial service and that the service should be constantly improved and advanced, together with all of its members. It has been stated that the basis for foundation of the financial service at the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia lies in the Law on Budgetary System, and not only in military regulations, which increases not only the importance and the role, but also the responsibility of every member of the financial service.

State Secretary hinted that the financial service will face serious obligations and tasks in the next period, and that a more efficient system of financial management and control should be established. “The knowledge we have presented to other ministers at the recently held conference on programed budget must be put into practice next year”, Djordjevic said. Economical, efficient and effective usage of means and securing business according to regulations will be a contribution to fiscal consolidation that is the priority goal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

During the meeting, mention has also been given to results in the field of education and public finances which are very successful. Still, it has been stated that we shouldn’t be content with the achieved, but strive to international verification.

The Financial Service was first established as a separate military service on November 8, 1944 and this year marks its 70th jubilee. For several decades, the Financial Service had the “administrative role”, focusing on research. Currently, the Financial Service is responsible for budget planning and has a “passive” controlling-accountant function, with a tendency for changing its role to provide support and help to the senior staff for taking over managing responsibilities; more precisely, for the function of financial management to be transferred to the domain of strategic finance management.

Head of the Budget Department and Chief of the Budget and Finances Sector Colonel Sasa Trandafilovic, PhD also visited cadets of the Finance Department at the Military Academy today and congratulated them on the Day of Service.
