Commemoration on the occasion of death of national hero Major Milan Tepic

Today, a commemorative gathering was held in Belgrade on the occasion of heroic death of Major Milan Tepic, who was killed on this day, 23 years ago, defending the central arms warehouse in the village of Bedenik near Bjelovar from Croatian paramilitary formations that had surrounded the warehouse.

Major Tepic then blew up the military warehouse, with him in it. With him, soldier Stojadin Mirkovic, who stayed with Major Tepic against the orders, was also killed, shooting from an armored personnel carrier at the enemy until he was hit by an anti-armor projectile.

For his act, Major Tepic was proclaimed a national hero. At today’s commemorative gathering, wreaths of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces were laid by the delegation led by Colonel Cedomir Dupor from the Logistics Department, and retired General Ljubomir Samardzic held a speech about his classmate, Major Tepic.

Wreaths were also laid at the memorial plaque in front of the Clinical Hospital Centre ''Dragiša Mišović” by family members, representatives of the Generals and Admirals Club, delegations of association for fostering Serbia’s liberation tradition, and the commemoration was also attended by numerous friends and citizens who came to pay respects to the heroic act of Major Milan Tepic.
