Donation of the United Kingdom to the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia
Today, at the Belgrade Fair, before the opening of the International Fair 'Prevention and Reaction in Emergency Situations and Health Safety at Work - 112 EXPO, Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic received a donation of the United Kingdom to the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, handed over by the UK Ambassador in Belgrade Denis Keefe. The donation is worth around 150,000 euros for filling capacities for flood defence, and it contains 86 mobile “Nautilus” pumps. The British Ambassador said that, after the disasters that had hit Serbia and the region in May, Britain has expressed sincere solidarity and made the commitment of supporting Serbia throughout a longer period of time, so it would overcome the crisis more easily.
- After the equipment that we have provided for the Emergency Situations Center of the Ministry of Interior, technical aid delivered from the Great Britain to the red Cross, active participation at the donation conference in Brussels, I am glad that we can also give our support to the Armed Forces of Serbia, with whom we have a traditionally good cooperation. I honestly hope there will be no more need for interventions of the scope we have seen in May, but these pumps will certainly help Serbia respond to possible crises even more efficiently – Ambassador Keefe said.
Thanking for the donation, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic said that it is another example of traditionally good friendly relations between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Serbia.- Aside from the floods in May, we had the floods in June, and now we also have a catastrophic situation in Kladovo. Each of these items is extremely necessary for us to be able to face the issues ahead of us in these changed circumstances and climate changes – Minister Gasic said.
He added that the pumps will be handed over to units of the Armed Forces of Serbia and used for its needs, and for helping citizens if needed.
