Mali Zvornik municipality recognises Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces
On the occasion of the Day of Mali Zvornik municipality, awards were presented to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces today for assistance in May flood relief in Serbia this year. Charter, the most important award presented by that municipality, was received by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic.
On this occasion, Minister Gasic said that the Serbian Armed Forces has always been with its people and that the Ministry of Defence, as an integral part of the Serbian Government, did everything what was needed to help each impacted municipality.
- Natural disaster befell also Krupanj, Mali Zvornik, Bajina Basta, Obrenovac, Leskovac, Paracin, Sabac and many other places, and here today we have bad situation in Donji Milanovac, Majdanpek and Kladovo. Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces took care to visit and help each impacted municipality in the country, Minister of Defence said.
He thanked the Municipality for the award he has received today and said that the recognition is addressed to all members of the Serbian Armed Forces who were "more than two months on the ground and unselfishly gave themselves for the citizens of Mali Zvornik to have an alternative route."
- We will be there as much as it is needed, and we will help the Municipality to obtain two more pontoon bridges to bring the life to normal as soon as possible, Minister Gasic said.
Besides other guests, the ceremony at the Cultural Centre was attended by the Commander of the Second Army Brigade Brigadier General Marinko Pavlovic. Plaque of the Municipality for merits in flood and environmental disaster relief was presented also to Lieutenant Colonel Slavko Prodanovic, commander of the working group engaged in flood relief in Mali Zvornik.
- This recognition was deserved by all the engaged members of the Serbian Armed Forces who worked tirelessly and helped residents in the period from 24 May to 27 July. In the mixed working group were members of the 210th Engineer Battalion of the 2nd Army Brigade, 310th Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Army Brigade, the 333rd Engineer Battalion and members of the Guard. They built a section of road 10,800 meters long, which was destroyed by landslide, were engaged in the reconstruction of the road section of 35 kilometres linking municipalities of Mali Zvornik and Krupanj and enabled smooth communication for the citizens, Lieutenant Colonel Prodanovic said .
