Serbia 1914 exhibition opens
On that occasion, General Dikovic said that the exhibition is the result of joint efforts of the two museums to present the heritage that teaches us and reminds us of the readiness and courage of the Serbian people and army and the uncompromised sacrifice for the freedom of the homeland, at the same time reminding us of the importance of preserving the heritage and traditions.
- If there are reasons to be proud of and cherish tradition, then these are the Republic of Serbia and its military. Our tradition is such that others envy us for it and there are many of those who would wish to have it, while we, sometimes, taken by the current situation, forget it. We have what to be proud of, and we must not let memories of the glory days of our history to fade. As long as our memory and the memory of posterity lasts, do not allow us to forget these, for Serbia, very difficult years, Chief of General Staff said.
Speakers about the exhibition were Dejan Ristic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Information, Dusica Bojic, Acting Director of the History Museum of Serbia and Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Mijatovic, Head of the Military Museum.
On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, the organisers have made special application Serbia 1914, a mobile platform created for the operating systems IOS and Android, with which visitors will be able to learn about history in an interesting way The application is designed to promote the cultural and historical heritage of Serbia in a modern way, using new media.
The exhibition shows more than 100 exhibits that show the humanity and bravery of our armed forces. The central part of the exhibition is the reconstruction of the war events in Serbia in 1914, from the Allied victory in the First World War on Mt Cer to battles on the Drina and Kolubara.
Apart from the objects that belonged to important persons, and complete armaments that our military used that year, the accompanying accessories – belts, socks that were worn by soldiers at that time, etc, are exposed as well.
During the exhibition, as part of the accompanying program, activities such as screening films and documentaries, debates, lectures and creative workshops for children and young people have been planned.
The exhibition will be open until 15 January 2015.
