Military Police Day marked



Обележен Дан Војне полицијеCeremony in the Great Warriors Hall of the old General Staff building marked today 14 September – the Military Police Day, which is celebrated in memory of the establishment of the Military Police of the former Yugoslav People's Army in 1955.

The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic with members of collegium, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior, the Serbian Armed Forces, former members and numerous other guests.

Congratulating the holiday to all "black berets", the Defence Minister said that the military police, combating crime in the Serbian Armed Forces, protecting buildings and important persons, working on traffic safety of military vehicles, proved to be one of the most important parts of our system.

- I wish you to continue to be the pride of the elite forces of the Serbian Armed Forces and the results which you achieve to hold on such a high level, said the Minister of Defence, adding that only a team can be the winner and that only teamwork can restore the Serbian Armed Forces to the place it deserves.

Дан Војне полицијеOn this occasion, the Chief of Military Police Department Brigadier General Dejan Jankovic recalled the six decades long tradition of the military police in Serbia, as well as the priority tasks in the next year.

The military police includes military police authorities in commands of the Serbian Armed Forces and the elements of the Ministry of Defence, and Military Police units that perform military police and general security duties. Members of the Military Police are responsible for crime prevention, control and maintenance of military order and discipline, and safeguarding the most important military facilities. Their tasks are security of persons, documents and armaments, the regulation and control of the military road traffic, as well as anti terrorist protection.
