Exercise "Shield-4"



SAF units declared for deployment in multinational operations – motorized infantry company, military police platoon and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense platoon, will execute the “Shield-4” exercise at Borovac training ground and at “South” base near Bujanovac from September 9 to September 12 . The goal of the exercise is to check and assess the achieved level of combat capabilities of units declared for deployment in multinational operations, in compliance to the Operational Capabilities Concept.

Tomorrow, after the end of the exercise, the international evaluation team will give final assessment on whether the declared units of the Armed Forces of Serbia are capable of participating in multinational operations in accordance with the OCC E&F Concept. If the assessment is favorable, the aforementioned formations will be available for referral to some of the missions under the auspices of the European Union or the Partnership for Peace, based on legally envisioned procedures.

The second to last day of the “Shield-4” exercise was attended by Major General Milosav Simovic, Deputy Army Commander and Commander of the Ohio National Guard Major General Deborah Ashenhurst. Generals Simovic and Ashenhurst talked today at the “South” base about the achieved level of development of this strategically important military object near the administrative line with Kosovo and Metohija, and about capacities of the Center for training units for multinational operations that is located there. The exercise “Shield-4” was also attended today by international military officials accredited in the Republic of Serbia.

During the last four years, the declared SAF units – the motorized infantry company from the formation of the Third Army Brigade, the military police platoon from the formation of the Third Military Police Battalion and the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense platoon from the formation of the 246th CBRN Battalion have successfully passed two national evaluations and one evaluation conducted by a NATO team.

In the exercise, up-to-date arms and equipment of the Armed Forces of Serbia are used, and the level of combat for conducting tasks in multinational operations is displayed. The emphasis is placed on cooperation with the Red Cross, on securing convoys, forming control spots, controlling masses and performing offensive operations.
